5 months, Jan 2006 – May 2006
Schneider was looking at leveraging RFID
technology to improve the internal process efficiencies and had the cross
docks process for a pilot implementation. The large volumes involved in
cross docks means that there are chances of mistakes in the loading of
outbound trailers. RFID technology has been used to reduce the incidence of
such mistake. Schneider was looking at implementing checks enabled through
RFID technology which could reduce the claim incidence rate.

The project involved the Implementation of the
RFID system that empowered greater visibility across the supply chain,
eliminated errors, and monitored pirated/expired goods and groceries,
faster processing, inventory control & management. The RFID system was
built to interface with RFID readers to interpret RFID events using Serial
I/O and TCP/IP. The internal communication among the various
layers/components of the RFID system used sockets. The system also had an
administrative module, a web based MVC application, which used JMS for
messaging and had an MSSQL Server at the back end.

on serial I/O and socket programming to communicate with the RFID devices,
and participated in Integration testing. Incorporated Aspect Oriented
Programming (AOP) using AspectJ into the middleware for point cuts needed
during URI conversion. Developed a web-based Unit Controller to start/stop
the various RFID readers and printers, the middleware components and
monitor their status. Implemented Pushlets to enable the server component
to simultaneously reflect component status changes on all client browsers
without having to refresh the page. Developed a Tag Data Reporting system
to capture snapshots based on readers using EJBs. Also built a Slap-n-Ship

Drug Pedigree Serialization| Drug E-Pedigree |
6 months, May 2006 – Nov 2006
Cognizant ePedigree Solution is being developed
to provide verification of drug shipment integrity from manufacturer to
retailer. The ePedigree Solution is all about pedigree of electronic data
to enable substantial product tracking through all the parties involved in
the drug supply chain system. It would also provide features such as
anti-counterfeit, drug recall, drug returns and shipment diversion.
Role
Team member
Responsibilities
Involved in design of a generic ePedigree data
model that can be shared by different ePedigree systems developed by
various vendors and proposing a security model that will be able to provide
full-proof security and which wouldn’t hinder the portability of the system
while communicating with other ePedigree systems. The design phase produced
a data model, which was submitted in the EPC global’s HLS-BAG community
that is responsible for creating standards and specifications for ePedigree
systems developed by various vendors worldwide.
The ePedigree solution will enable all the
units involved in the supply chain to validate the authenticity of the
drugs while entering or exiting the unit and will add to the safety and
security of the system. Developed different modules to implement different
use cases identified in the drug-supply chain management.
